What We’ve Been Up To

We are in full swing with our Book Clubs, Teacher Clubs and our Spelling Group. The kids turned in their published, illustrated books last week.  We will be sharing on the Author’s Stage and also with the Kindergarten Classes.

We took a multiplication quiz and our Government test.  We have started our Unit on Making Inferences in reading and our new unit “States of Matter” in science.

This Week

READING             We will be reading lots of poetry and looking for meaning using inferencing.  We continue to read independently between 30-40 minutes every day.  Every student must read a biography, a poetry collection, a historical fiction, and 3 choice books this quarter.

WRITING             We are free writing some various personal narrative drafts.  Later in the week, we will choose one to take through the writing process for publishing.

MATH                   We will be relating multiplication with division.  Eventually we will merge over to just division, including long division.

SCIENCE               We will be comparing solids and liquids as we partake in a couple of labs this week.

SS                           We have begun our Explorer Project.  Everyone will be researching one explorer, which will eventually be presented to the class.

In The Spirit…

Lots of charitable opportunities…

We are continuing with Penny Wars in our classroom.  We have narrowed down our charity choices and the kids want to let our money jars grow beyond Christmas.

We have a hats, mittens, and scarf tree in the lobby and a Toys for Tots box in the office.

Box tops, Campbells Soups and Little Caesars are all being collected in the classroom.

Thank You Volunteers

We have lots of help in our classroom.  I am so grateful to each of you—Mrs. Moberly, Mrs. Sieloff, Mrs. Martin, Mrs. Drabczyk, Mrs. Smith, Mrs. Pauli, Mrs. Lozon, Ms. Derby, Mrs. Howee, and Mrs. DeLisen.  Thank you Thank you Thank you!!
